Description

Gilestone Farm is the ultimate rural idyll. It stands on the banks of the River Usk, at the foot of the Brecon Beacons, and is just a few minutes’ walk from the bustling village of Talybont-on-Usk, which offers two pubs, a village shop, a canal and a reservoir.

The farm is the perfect antidote to modern life. Peaceful and charming, it offers both relaxation and activity in equal measure. Whether you're after a gentle meander around the community orchard on the farm or along the nearby canal, or something more energetic like hiking or biking up the challenging Brecon Beacons, there's something for everyone.

Visiting the Area

Guests are warmly invited to tour the farm with the owner alongside his trusty border collie, Meg. The farm is a traditional mixed operation, with arable fields, suckler beef cattle and, naturally, plenty of sheep. Children will love the chance to help feed the orphan lambs, while visitors of all ages can enjoy exploring the farm at their own pace.

Talybont may be a small village, but it more than holds its own. Well-known among walkers and cyclists, it’s surrounded by natural beauty, with a canal, two rivers, a reservoir, hills, woodlands, waterfalls and abundant wildlife all close by. The village itself is full of character and charm, offering a mix of local arts and crafts, a shop with a café, a playground with a trim trail, two welcoming pubs and a well-regarded restaurant. Talybont also has a rich and varied history, stretching from the Iron Age through to the Industrial Revolution, adding depth to its already strong sense of place.
