Dolswydd Caravan Park is set on the edge of a traditional Welsh upland sheep and beef family farm, where John, Viv, and Jimmy offer all visitors a warm welcome. The park adjoins the historic village of Penybont, once a main droving route and home to one of the largest fairs in the early 19th century.
The site overlooks Penybont Race Course, which plays host to Penybont Races on the first Wednesday in August. This is one of the oldest trotting races in Wales and well worth attending. Llandrindod Trotting Races has also moved to the racecourse and this is held on August bank holiday.
Dolswydd is on the edge of a pretty, traditional working farm. Peaceful and tranquil, with fine views of the Welsh hills and surrounding area.
It has modern facilities and 25 good spacious pitches mainly on hard standings, all with electrical connections (16A). The park is within walking distance of the local pub which offers good home-cooked food.
John, Viv and Jimmy extend a warm welcome to their park, which is ideal as a touring base or for a one night stop, but booking is advisable during busy periods.
During your visit, it is well worth walking up Llandegley Rocks to experience the stunning views over the park and the surrounding area. You are within walking distance of the local Public House and Garage. Also worth visiting is the recently restored Thomas Shop. A 20-minute car drive and you can be at the famous Elan Valley. This area hosts five reservoirs, which supply the city of Birmingham with Water.
During July, the local town of Llanelwedd near Builth Wells plays host to the Royal Welsh show. This is reported to be the largest agricultural show in the country and well worth visiting. The site also hosts a smallholder weekend in May, which is worth taking the family to.
The Judge's lodgings in Presteigne is just a 20-minute drive away and gives a fascinating insight into life in the 1870s. This award-winning museum gives an insight into both the upstairs and downstairs life in the Judge's lodgings.
The Small Breeds Farm Park and Owl Centre is a magical place to experience animals, birds, and owls. Enjoy a few hours of pure simple pleasure in an enchanting place where the rest of the world just doesn't seem to exist.
The town also holds the national Cycle exhibition.
