Holme Farm Camping

Sedbergh, Cumbria, Lune Valley

Description

For a truly free-range camping experience, Holme Farm in the Lune Valley offers the perfect escape, situated between the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales National Parks. This traditional Dales working farm, run by Chris and Laura, sits on the edge of the River Rawthey, providing a peaceful setting surrounded by stunning natural beauty.

The farmhouse and meadows are located at 80 metres above sea level, with pastures rising to 100 metres and hill sheep grazing rights extending up to 300 metres on Middleton Fell. From this height, shepherds and their flocks can enjoy panoramic views of nine different valleys and parishes, including Dentdale, Garsdale, Cautley, Sedbergh, Howgill, Firbank, Marthwaite, Killington and Middleton.

Camping pitches are set in a flat, spacious field with a picnic area by the river, offering a relaxed and scenic spot to set up camp. There are a limited number of electric hook-ups, suitable for tents, campervans and caravans and there are limited hard standings available. The basic facilities include a simple ablutions block with a couple of showers, separate men’s and women’s toilets and a washing-up sink located in a nearby farm outbuilding, just a short walk from the camping field.

Guests can explore the farm’s nature trail to discover local wildlife, paddle or fish in the River Rawthey, or enjoy a riverside picnic. For the more adventurous, there are great spots for wild swimming in the crystal-clear waters around Sedbergh, with flat, pebbled areas providing easy access to the river.

Campfires are allowed and dogs are welcome, provided they are kept on a lead at all times. Holme Farm is an ideal destination for campers, caravans, tents and groups looking for a peaceful countryside retreat, with the natural charm of the Lune Valley and beyond right on the doorstep. There are plenty of places to visit nearby including:

White Scar Cave.
Ingleton Falls.
Farfield Mill.
Cautley Spout.
Ingleborough Cave.
