Ali’s Little Woodland Wonder offers a unique off-grid eco retreat situated within 12 acres of woodland on our family-run 270-acre working farm in Settle, North Yorkshire. Designed with a vintage and retro feel, it’s a haven crafted from our passion for nature, providing a holiday experience for everyone to enjoy.
The shepherd's hut features a cosy double bed, retro kitchenette, wood-burning stove and comfortable seating. Adjacent, a camp kitchen equipped with hot and cold running water, a gas stove, crockery and cooking utensils ensures convenience. Facilities include a waterless compost toilet and a gas-heated shower hut. Being off-grid, all lighting is solar-powered and guests are advised to bring a power bank for phone charging as there are no plug sockets. While there’s no Wi-Fi, good phone coverage is available. Bedding is provided, but guests should bring their own towels.
In rural conditions, winter may cause the water supply to freeze; however, drinking water remains available. Access to the site, 0.2 miles along an unpaved farm track, is suitable for all cars. During summer, farm machinery operations for winter cattle feed may be heard at night.
Guests are informed that despite the secluded woodland setting, daily farm activities like mail delivery, 4x4s and milk collection occur along the nearby farm track. Campfires are allowed, with a fire pit and BBQ provided. Wood foraging is encouraged if dry and on the ground. There's no fridge, but a cool box with ice blocks is supplied.
Exploration extends beyond the hut to the entire 12-acre woodland area, perfect for guests bringing dogs, which are allowed off-leash within the wood. Caution is advised due to abundant wildlife such as ducks, deer, and rabbits. Outside the woodland, dogs must be leashed due to farm operations and machinery.
For those seeking more space, an additional pitch for a camper van or tent can be booked alongside the shepherd's hut, ideal for bringing friends along for a night or two of shared woodland tranquility.
