Description

Little Ropers Woodland Camping is a small, peaceful patch of woodland situated on a working farm at the edge of the Dedham Vale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Surrounded by stunning countryside and walking trails through the Stour Valley, it offers a tranquil escape from the modern world. This is a “nearly wild” camping experience for tents only, with pitches available in the woodland or the adjacent meadow. The site provides a quiet alternative to larger commercial campsites, encouraging a back-to-basics approach for those looking to reconnect with nature.

Facilities are simple but comfortable. There is no electricity or hot water on-site, but guests have access to flush toilets, an undercover washing-up area and an outdoor drinking water tap. Back at the farm, campers can find hot showers (operated with a £1 coin for three minutes), an additional toilet, hot and cold running water and a washing-up sink. Locally produced barbecue food and homemade country pies can be bought & ordered in advance and each pitch includes an open fire pit. Seasoned hardwood logs are available to buy at the farm and while guests cannot bring their own firewood, there are also log burners, rocket stoves, barbecues and campfire ovens available to use free of charge, along with grills for cooking over open fires.

A small, self-service campsite shop is located at the farm, offering a selection of locally made and sourced products, including jams, chutneys, honey from the farm’s hives, fresh eggs, milk, snacks and marshmallows for toasting. The shop also stocks camping essentials such as fuel, matches, ice creams and locally made crafts. Purchases can be made via an iPad system, with payment by card or cash through an honesty pot. A fridge and freezer are available with limited space for campers’ own items and there are also secure lockers equipped with plug sockets for charging devices. Campers can bring their own small padlock or borrow one with a refundable deposit.

As a small site, the number of pitches is limited. Vehicles are left at the farmyard and campers enjoy a short five to ten-minute walk to the campsite, enhancing the sense of adventure. Wheelbarrows are free to borrow for carrying gear and for those with heavier loads, transport by ATV and trailer can be arranged for a small fee. Pitches are generously spaced and vary in size depending on the location, with allocation based on tent size and booking details. Returning campers can make pitch requests when booking.

For those looking for a little more comfort, the farm also offers two premium bell tents for hire in a separate area. These are two 5-metre Ultimate Pro bell tents each sleeping up to 6 people or 4 adults, they are set in their own peaceful corner of a wildflower meadow with lovely countryside views. Positioned away from the main campsite but closer to the farm and facilities, they offer both privacy and convenience. You may even spot the farm’s cows grazing in the neighbouring field during your stay. These premium bell tents are designed for comfort and practicality, featuring optional zip mesh doors and lower wall sections that allow refreshing airflow on warm days while keeping out insects and flies.

Little Ropers Woodland Camping provides a truly peaceful and authentic outdoor experience — a place to switch off, unwind and enjoy the beauty of the natural world.
