Blackdown Yurts are situated between the villages of Kentisbeare and Blackborough, only a short drive from Cullompton (and the M5) in Devon. We are located within the Blackdown Hills which is a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
We have four authentic and beautifully painted Mongolian yurts furnished in colourful fabrics and hangings from India. Each has a wood-burning stove to keep you toasty in the cooler months, plus a solar panel for electric light. Torches and tealights are provided.
Buzzard Yurt sleeps six and is set apart on a large deck on a hillside above the others and can only be accessed on foot via a short, but steep hillside. Flanked by oak trees, with stunning, panoramic views across the valley, it provides a wonderful vantage point for watching the local wildlife. This yurt is ideal for a romantic getaway from it all.
Woodpecker and Badger yurts both sleep six (in one double and four singles). These two yurts are adjacent to one another at the bottom of a gently sloping ten-acre field with plenty of space outside for children to play. Each is enclosed by a high Devon bank scattered with wild flowers, which gives privacy from the neighbours. That said, Woodpecker and Badger are also ideal for two families who wish to holiday together.
Willow is our smallest yurt, sleeping four. It sits in the corner of the same field as Woodpecker and Badger but has its own decked area enclosed by tall willow whips. This is a private, cosy little space for a couple or small family. It is the closest yurt to the shared barn and showers.
Each yurt has its own camp kitchen with gas stove/oven, BBQ and space for an open fire outdoors. Each yurt also has a compost toilet right next door. They are just like regular toilets but there is no need to flush, just a handful of sawdust is all that's needed. If you prefer something a little more conventional there are flushing toilets, sinks and three hot showers in the communal barn located a short walk away. The barn also has a large communal kitchen with gas stoves, fridges, freezers, a huge table and sofa area with wood burning stove. Perfect for relaxing and socialising with your family or a group.
